Full history of Tangail District Court
History of Tangail District:
In 1962, a proposal was presented to the Pakistani government to divide Mymensingh into 4 districts namely Qaikobad, Nasirabad, Tangail and Islamabad. In this proposal, Tangail and Manikganj sub-divisions are combined with Tangail district headquarters to establish a separate sub-division in Gopalpur to establish the district headquarters in Tangail.
Court History:
Tangail subdivision was established in 1869. Its headquarters was at Atiya under Delduar police station. In 1870 the sub-divisional office was shifted to Tangail town. In 1880 AD, the Atiya Munsefi Court was shifted to Adalat Road (present Shaheed Jaglu Road) in the present Tangail town. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Munsifi Courts were established here in stages. Later, on 1st December 1969, after the then Tangail subdivision was elevated as a district, the court proceedings were shifted to the present District and Sessions Judge Court building. Mr. Mohammad Masih was the first District and Sessions Judge of Tangail.
Courts of District and Sessions Judges
At present, Tangail has 02 Additional District and Sessions Judge Courts, 04 Joint District and Sessions Judge Courts, 01 Land Survey Tribunal, 04 Senior Assistant Judge Courts and 07 Assistant Judge Courts in addition to the District and Sessions Judge Courts in Tangail. Besides, there is 01 Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal and 01 Special Judge Court.
Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate
After the separation of the Judiciary in 2007, the activities of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court were conducted in the buildings of District Judge Court, District Parishad, Collectorate Recreation Club. The work of setting up the first Chief Judicial Magistrate court building in Tangail district as a pilot district of the project of establishing Chief Judicial Magistrate court building in 64 districts of the country started. Later, in 2014, the proceedings of this court were shifted to the present Chief Judicial Magistrate court building. At present, apart from the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, there are 01 Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, 01 Electricity Court, 05 Senior Judicial Magistrate Court, 06 Judicial Magistrate Court.
